Home of the Navajo Beef Program

14R is a non-profit organization incorporated on the Navajo Nation. It is located in what is called “New Lands” or Nahata D’zhil (by the Navajo) near the Sanders, Arizona area. There is 360,000-acres of grazing land and 81 permit holders that share the 360,000 acres of grazing lands.

14R Ranch Inc. was incorporated as an instrument to help manage the 14 range units that make up Nahata D’zhil. To manage the 14 range units in a sustainable and profitable manner. Under the leadership of corporation president Al Pahi 14R is well on its way to becoming sustainable and profitable for its members.

14R works closely with Padres Mesa Ranch, a demonstration ranch set up by the Office of Navajo-Hopi Indian Relocation (ONHIR) to help relocated Navajo ranchers become better cattle producers and be happy that they were forced to move. However no amount of monetary gain can ease the pain of being forced to move from one’s home.

At Nahata D’zhil relocatees are shown good ranching practices with the help of Padres Mesa Ranch, which will elevate the standards of cattle raised at 14R. With 14 range units, about 25,000 acres per unit, permit holders are allowed up to 30 head of cattle. The beef grazes naturally and feeds on a particular type of sage shrub and other naturally occurring herbs that brings lots of protein and other nutrients as well as adding special flavor to the meat.
